Let me be real with you — the factory screen in my Ford Ranger Mk2 was fine for 2016, but in 2026 it felt like looking at a flip phone in a smartphone world. So I went ahead and dropped in a massive 10.1-inch QLED touchscreen from Topdisplay. Wireless CarPlay, full Android ecosystem, and the best part? Kept every single OEM control — steering wheel buttons, factory radio tuner, climate display, all of it. No wire cutting, no splicing, completely reversible. Here's exactly how it went down.

Step 1: Disconnect Battery & Remove Dash Trim

First things first — pop the hood and disconnect that negative battery terminal. You're about to mess with a lot of electrical connectors and the last thing you want is an accidental short or an airbag surprise. Socket wrench, 10 seconds, done.

Now comes the fun part. Grab your trim removal tools (the blue plastic pry set is your best friend here) and start working your way around the dash. I taped up the edges with painter's tape to avoid scratches — a two-minute move that'll save your trim from looking like a cat used it as a scratching post. Pop the top dash panel off first, then work your way down. The side trim pieces next to the vents come off with a firm tug. Once those are out, the whole fascia surrounding the radio and climate controls lifts away. Don't be shy — those clips are tougher than they look.

Step 2: Remove the Factory Radio

With the dash torn down, you can finally see what Ford buried in there. The factory infotainment unit is held in by a handful of screws — some obvious, some hiding. You'll need a socket wrench with an extension to reach the deep ones. Pop off the little screw covers on the top corners of the unit first, they're sneaky.

Once the screws are out, the unit slides forward. But don't yank it — there are still wiring harnesses plugged into the back. Carefully disconnect each connector. The main harness at the bottom is the big one, and there's a hidden connector tucked behind the center console near the gear shifter that's easy to miss. Take your time here. Label stuff if you're worried about mixing things up later.

Step 3: Transfer the OEM Circuit Board (This Is the Critical One)

Alright, this is the step that makes or breaks the whole install. That factory radio you just pulled out? You're not throwing it away. You're going to crack it open and extract its brain — the green OEM circuit board — and transplant it into the new housing that comes with the Topdisplay kit.

Unscrew the bracket tabs off the sides of the factory radio first. Then flip it over and use a small screwdriver to open the back cover of the plastic bezel. Inside, you'll find the green circuit board connected by a red wiring harness. Disconnect it carefully. The front faceplate with all the buttons and knobs separates from the circuit board — pry gently. Now take that green board and the silver metal enclosure and mount them into the new black housing that the kit provides. Screw everything back together tightly. This is what preserves your steering wheel controls, OEM radio tuner, and factory functions. Get this right and everything just works. Get it wrong and, well... let's just say you'll be taking the dash apart again.

Step 4: Assemble the New Dash Kit

Now that the brains are transplanted, it's time to build the frame that holds everything together. The kit comes with white plastic corner brackets and a silver mod frame. Attach the corner brackets to the bottom edge first, then flip the whole assembly and do the other side. Yellow-handled screwdriver worked perfectly for these little screws — don't overtighten or you'll strip the plastic threads.

Next, mount the black GoGo interface box (that's the CAN bus decoder that bridges your OEM board to the new Android screen) onto its metal bracket using the blue-handled screwdriver. This box is what translates all the vehicle signals so the new screen can talk to your Ranger. Once it's secured, the whole assembly should feel solid, not rattly.

Step 5: Connect Wiring & Mount the Screen

Time to hook everything up. The Topdisplay kit is genuinely plug-and-play — every connector has a matching port, so you can't really mess this up unless you force something. Plug the GoGo control unit back into the vehicle's factory wiring harness. Connect the GPS antenna (I routed mine up to the dash corner for best signal). If you're adding a reverse camera, now's the time to run that cable through the firewall. The thick multi-colored ribbon cable from the screen plugs into the back of the 10.1" display — it's the main data and power connection.

Before you screw anything into place, loosely position the screen in the dash opening and double-check that no cables are pinched behind it. The screen should sit flush against the new dash kit frame.

Step 6: Final Fit & Finish

This is the moment you've been waiting for. With all the wiring connected and tested, push the assembled unit firmly into the dashboard cavity. It should click into place — those factory mounting points are reused, so the fit is tight and OEM-quality. Reattach all the trim panels in reverse order: climate control panel first, then the side trims, then the top dash pad. Everything snaps back with a satisfying thud.

Step back and take it in. That 10.1-inch QLED panel transforms the entire cabin. From behind the wheel, it looks like it came from the factory this way — clean, modern, and infinitely more useful than the stock screen ever was.
