Radio Upgrade Installation Guide

10.4-inch QLED  |  8-Core CPU  |  Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto  |  Keep OEM Controls

I recently installed the Topdisplay 10.4-inch QLED radio upgrade on my 2009 Buick Lacrosse and documented the whole process. If you own a 2009-2013 Buick Lacrosse and want to bring modern CarPlay, Android Auto, and a gorgeous touchscreen into your dash while keeping all your factory climate controls and steering wheel buttons, this guide is for you. The whole thing took me under 90 minutes with basic tools. Let's get into it.

Step 1: Remove the Trim Panels

Start by popping off the top storage tray on the center stack. Then carefully pry off the chrome trim around the driver-side air vent and the lower console trim piece surrounding the shifter. Use a plastic pry tool to avoid scratching anything. A couple of screws under the console trim need to come out too.

Step 2: Unplug and Remove the Factory Radio

With the trim out of the way, pull the entire center console assembly forward. You will see the factory radio secured by brackets. Disconnect all the wiring harnesses plugged into the back of the old unit, then unbolt and slide it out of the dash. Keep the factory screws — you will reuse some of them later.

Step 3: Transfer OEM Components

Take the old radio unit to your workbench. You need to disassemble it and carefully transfer the OEM circuit board and the rotary climate control knobs over to the new Topdisplay unit. This is what lets the new screen talk to your factory HVAC system. Take your time here. The ribbon cable is delicate.

Step 4: Connect the Wiring Harnesses

Now the plug-and-play part. The Topdisplay kit comes with a main wiring harness that matches your factory connectors. Plug the main harness, RCA video cables, and all auxiliary cables into the back of the new radio. Everything is labeled, so it is hard to get wrong. Just make sure each connector clicks fully into place.

Step 5: CRITICAL — Power-On Test

Do NOT put everything back together yet. Reconnect the battery, turn the key to ACC, and power up the new unit. Verify every single thing: the touchscreen responds, CarPlay and Android Auto launch, climate controls work, and all steering wheel buttons function correctly. If anything is off, now is the time to double-check your connections. Once everything checks out, you are clear to reassemble.

Step 6: Reassemble & Enjoy

Snap all the trim panels back in place in reverse order. Give everything a final once-over, fire up Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, throw on some music, and enjoy your factory-clean modern dashboard. It completely transforms the interior of a 15-year-old car.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does this damage the car or void the warranty?

No. The install is fully reversible. You are not cutting any factory wires. The kit uses plug-and-play harnesses, so you can swap the original radio back in anytime.

Q: Do I need special tools or professional help?

Not at all. A basic Phillips screwdriver, a plastic pry tool, and a socket set are all you need. If you have ever assembled IKEA furniture, you can handle this.

Q: Is it really that hard? I have never done anything like this.

It is moderate difficulty. The trickiest part is transferring the OEM circuit board in Step 3, but as long as you go slow and follow the video, it is totally manageable. Most owners finish in under 90 minute on their first try.

Q: Will I lose my factory climate controls or steering wheel buttons?

No. That is one of the best things about the Topdisplay unit. All factory climate controls, steering wheel audio buttons, and OEM vehicle settings are retained and integrated into the new touchscreen interface. You get modern tech without sacrificing anything.
